I have a tough time believing that I would buy any car other than a BMW after my E90 was in a very serious accident.

I was clipped by another car, and went over the side at highway speed. Walked away without a scratch.

I was amazed by that vehicle for many reasons, and one of them was safety. When it came time to replace it, I did not look anywhere else other than BMW.

Glad to hear you are fine.

You are of course correct that cars are much safer today than in the past. I wonder though if that causes some people (not us, of course ) to drive more aggressively than they otherwise would. I’m not saying people would consciously do this, but it may be one factor of many in what seems to be increasingly bad driving in general.

There are many other factors: overpowered cars with inadequate driver training, increasingly congested roads, the fact that everyone believes they are a better than average driver (obviously impossible), too many distractions, . . . .

Two things: your 7 got the worst of it (according to your picture), but it “absorbed” the impact and the metal bent etc; and, I race cars and have for years (including Porsche, Ferrari, and others), it just doesn’t matter how good you are at driving on the track. It takes ONE idiot to drive into headlong and it’s all over. Your skills may help you, but if someone is a complete idiot you are going to pay, reducing the cost is all you can hope for.

I am glad to hear you are uninjured. Cars are meaningless, life is fleeting–protect youself with the best car on the market.
