When it comes to laptop projectors, to paraphrase the title of the George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart hit play, it turns out that you can take it with you. Laptop projectors have become so small that some literally fit in your pocket. Which one you will want to take with you, however, will depend greatly on what your needs are.
We took a look at three very different projectors that meet fairly diverse sets of needs, namely (from smallest to largest) the Tumi Portable Projector, the Favi B1-LED-Pico, and the …

Although it’s the largest in our report (3.6 x 1.6 x 4.4 in.), the HP Projector Companion is nonetheless smaller than other projectors with similar specifications. It’s the only projector in our tests that could serve double duty as both a traditional office and travel projector. It would also make a great home theater projector for games and movies, one that you could grab for the occasional meeting.
HP says that the LED light source will last for five years, which means that there are no lamp replacement costs.
Setup is easy. …

The Favi B1-LED-Pico is a feature-rich projector that we really wanted to like. Unfortunately, its image quality issues made that impossible.
What the tiny Favi does have going for it is that everything is built-in. It has both built-in and MicroSD storage, a built-in media player, built-in controls, a built-in speaker, and a tiny built-in power supply. The only thing that isn’t built in is the remote control. On paper, this makes it the ideal projector.
In our tests, however, the so-so image quality kept raising its head and, along with with …

The Tumi Portable Projector is my latest “no go item” for trips (in aviation, a “no go item” is a piece of equipment whose absence from an aircraft will preclude takeoff). No bigger overall than a mobile phone (it measures 4 7/8 x 2 x 3/4 in.), the Tumi is small enough to go on any trip. It works particularly well with an iPod or iPhone although it also works with almost any portable media player as well as with laptops with a VGA output. Image quality is excellent and …

THIS DRIVE WILL SELF-DESTRUCT IN …
In the television show Mission Impossible, the tape detailing the mission that Jim Phelps (played by Peter Graves) was being assigned would self-destruct in five seconds so the top-secret information would not fall into the wrong hands.
Today, many business travelers think nothing of carrying confidential information on an ordinary flash drive. Every day, however, thousands of such drives are lost or misplaced and some fall into the wrong hands. One way of keeping your data out of the wrong hands is to use a …

In the business world, the BlackBerry is synonymous with smart smartphones. Millions of knowledge workers worldwide rely on BlackBerry devices for e-mail and texting, not to mention phone calls. Although it still holds a dominant position in the many parts of the globe, companies are starting to look at alternatives, most notably the Apple iPhone and phones that run on the Google Android operating system.
Indeed, Research in Motion, the maker of the BlackBerry, hasn’t had it easy in recent years. Its first two touchscreen devices, the Storm and the Storm …

Getting up-to-date flight information while on the go is frequently a challenge. For the past few months, I’ve been testing FlightView on my BlackBerry Bold 9700 (the application also works on an iPhone) and have found this to be one of the most useful apps a business traveler could download. The application integrates with the BlackBerry calendar, which puts travel information and travel notes entered into FlightView directly onto the calendar.
FlightView uses verified FAA data to tell me where my plane is and notifies me of delays on scheduled flights …

Having a local phone number in a foreign city can be very useful to the business traveler, whether it’s to establish a business presence or make it easy for friends and family to reach you. Before the Internet, the only way to do this would be to contact the local telephone company in a particular city and order remote call forwarding, if such a service were available.
Today, however, there are multiple Internet-based phone companies out there that offer such a service. One of them is Callcentric.
The Callcentric International Unlimited phone …

All SDHC cards are not created equal. Using SanDisk’s 32 GB Extreme 30 MB/s Edition SDHC cards is like having a hardened hard drive in your DSLR. The card features a lightning fast read and write speed of 200x (30 MB/s) which also supports faster photo and video transfers from camera to computer when used with the SanDisk ImageMate Multi-Card reader.
When SanDisk announced the card last summer, they hailed it as the world’s fastest 32 GB SDHC …
